On December 9, 2017, the Unveiling Ceremony of the 3rd Northeast Asia Regional Development Seminar and “Northeast Asia Research Association of Chinese Association of Asia-Pacific Studies” were held in Shandong University. Wang Linggui, Executive Vice President of National Institute for Global Strategy, jointly attended the conference with nearly more than 150 scholars from China Academy of Social Sciences, Tsinghua University, Fudan University, the Foreign Affairs University, Tongji University all over the country.

Chinese Association of Asia-Pacific Studies is a multidisciplinary academic body, which is composed of researchers, teaching staffs and practitioners who are engaged in research work on politics, economy, society and culture in the Asia Pacific region. The unveiling ceremony of the “Northeast Asia Research Association of Chinese Association of Asia-Pacific Studies” marks the official establishment of the first academic group capitalizing GUO to be engaged in Northeast Asian studies in our country.
As the gathering area of the major power relations in the world, Northeast Asia is of great significance to both the development of China's diplomacy and that of the Asia-Pacific region and even the world. How to ensure the peace and stability in Northeast Asia and how to handle and coordinate the relations at different levels in this area where the relations between the major powers will test the diplomatic wisdom of China, which is also the focus of the study for the Northeast Asian academic circles in the future. The founding of the Northeast Asian Research Association carries important mission of the times and historical responsibility as well as marks the founding of this emerging discipline in Northeast Asian Studies.
 
After the meeting, Wang Linggui took part in the first council meeting of Northeast Asia Research Association of Chinese Association of Asia-Pacific Studies. The institutional setting and personnel composition of the research institute were further discussed, which pointed out the direction for the future development of the research institute. Finally, the participants reached a consensus. The academic activities are sponsored by Northeast Asia Institute of Shandong University and Northeast Asia Research Center of Shandong University, jointly organized by Regional Security Research Center of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Peripheral Diplomatic Center of Yunnan University, Journal of International Security Studies and Global Review.
